The best places in India for master degree in maths are as below:

- Chennai Mathematical Institute (CMI) admits through admission test in end of may. BTech students are eligible. Application for Admission test starts in mid March. Admission test will be real challenge 🙂

- Indian Institute of Science (IISc) admits through JAM Exam ( From 2016, only through JAM and not followed by Interview ). B Tech student are eligible

- The Institute of Mathematical Sciences (IMSc), Chennai admits through NBHM and followed by interview. Only BSc students are eligible as on 2016.

- Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) through admission test followed by interview. B Tech students are eligible

- Tata Institute of Fundamental Institute (TIFR) through admission test. followed by interview. B Tech students are  allowed. Main centre is in Bombay, while a branch for applicable Mathematics is in Bangalore.

- Harish-Chandra research institute (HRI) through NBHM exam followed by interview
- IISERs

And some more…

- IITs admits though JAM Exam. B Tech students are eligible

- Most NITs admits through JAM Exam.
~~Few NITs allow B Tech students. Admission process for NITs is through~~~~Â CCMN (Centralized counselling for MSc admission to NITs and CFTI)~~Â Now a days they are not alowing.

In above institute (except IITs ,NITs) students are paid amount ranging from 6000 to 28000 per month and in coming year it may increase. By qualifying NBHM, MSc students can get amount 6000 per month for two years of their MSc. Thus NBHM is a good source of money for those student who are not getting any amount from their institute.

Hello Ravi.

I have not gone through this complete blog, but I read the article about the institutes admitting on the basis of JAM and have 2 doubts. First, are you sure that from 2017 onwards, there shall not be any interview for Integrated PhD at IISc? Second, do IITs also take B.Tech. students through JAM who have NOT studied Mathematics for 2 years in their B.Tech.? Please answer if you are sure asap.

Thanks for the blog and I request you to please recommend me some good book to practice questions for JAM Mathematics. I don’t want theory book. I want some good book to practice large number of questions (solved) similar to that in JAM.

Thanks.

90% sure. Iisc will give admission without interview.

I have no such book to recommend.

No matter how much questions you practice, without reading theory you can’t perform well…

Four semester of mathematics is compulsory but you should try till the end in counseling… they may not cancel your admission…

good luck to you 🙂

Look at the list of subjects you studied in 4th to 8th. If any of them is similar to math then count it as 4th subject.

It maybe difficult to get admission in PhD in good institutes without doing MSc(except u are extraordinary in maths). my advice is try for MSc or integrated MSc-PhD as well while u try for PhD.
